A beautiful autumn sunrise over Mount Caburn, looking over the Ouse Valley from Swanborough hill near the Castle Hill Nature Reserve. This landscape photography workshop for Royal Photographic Society members started at 5.00am on Kingston Ridge for a walk on the South Downs ready for sunrise over the Ouse Valley.

I spend a lot of my time on these workshops tutoring photographer’s on landscape photography tips and techniques. I only shot a couple of different compositions at sunrise to demonstrate the different opportunities for landscape shots from Swanborough hill, using Mount Caburn as a key focal point in the photographs.

This pathway down Swanborough hill was a great leading line for the sunrise, creating a sweeping line to lead your eye into the landscape. A HDR blend of two different exposures, together with using hard grad filters helped balance out the exposure for this photograph.
